Janet Jackson Writes Heartfelt Message to Aaliyah on the Anniversary of her Death

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Janet Jackson took to Twitter to post a heartfelt letter she wrote to Aaliyah on the14th anniversary of her death.

R&B singer Aaliyah died in a plane crash at 22 on Aug. 25, 2001. 

And though Aaliyah died at a very young age, she managed to created a longstanding legacy in the music industry and among her fans as displayed by the many  #ripAaliyah posts on Twitter and other social media platforms.

In the letter, Jackson expressed her love for Aaliyah and revealed that they both shared a “scared” and “everlasting” bond.

Sources say that Aaliyah had plans to work with Jackson on a musical collaboration prior to her death and often cited Jackson as one her biggest musical influences. Before her death Janet and Aaliyah also developed a budding friendship. 

Rest in peace baby girl, you will never be forgotten. 

“Big Sean Premiers “Play No Games” Video at BET Awards”

Last night, Big Sean dropped the music video for his song “Play No Games” which features Chris Brown and Ty Dolla $ign. Many are arguing that despite us being only halfway through 2015, Big Sean dropped the video of the year. The music video is an ode to the hit TV comedy “Martin,” home to the infamous couple Martin and Gina (Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell). Big Sean completely nailed the whole 90’s themed video- complete with actors and actresses resembling key characters like Tommy, Cole, Pam, Roscoe, Bruh- Man, and more. In a time where people don’t watch music videos as much as they used to since shows like 106 & Park and Rap City have become obsolete, Big Sean has potentially brought back the art of visuals and their importance. You can even catch a cameo from Martin Lawrence himself towards the end. “Big Sean Opens Recording Studio at His Old High School"

It’s no secret that Big Sean holds his city near and dear to his heart, as he reps his hometown (Detroit) every chance he gets. This is common for most rappers, but while other rappers are talking about how much they love the cities they come from, Big Sean is showing us all just how deep his love runs. A few months ago, Big Sean promised students at his old high school, Cass Technical High School, their own recording studio- only if they raised their ACT scores. Well, the students fulfilled their goal, so Sean fulfilled his promise. Last week, he went to his Instagram and posted a photo with the caption:

“I can't believe I used to rap at the lunch tables, slang my CD's in the hallways, and fast foward less than 10 years later I'm opening up my own recording studio at my old High School Cass Tech for the students! This brings me tears of Joy! Thank u for making this happen @adidasoriginals 📷 @zenojones”
