Death of A Giant

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be sitting here at the age of 34 typing of an obituary article about my favorite person since I was 8 years old. I guess, they don’t live forever.

On Sunday, January 26th, Longtime Los Angeles Laker, entrepreneur, & father, Kobe Bean Bryant, his daughter, Giana, & 7 other passengers departed this life in a helicopter crash outside of Calabasas, California.

Kobe Bryant played basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers his entire career. He began to elevate in his retirement to a all purpose business man.

He went on to win an Oscar in 2018 for his short film, “Dear Basketball”.

He meant so much to not just the basketball community but to the world. It’s sometimes hard to think about the fact that we really lost a titan in not just a sport but in life.

So many black children lost a hero Sunday.

We lost a light & a legend.

So many have made tributes to him from various tv shows & the internet. The most heartfelt tributes have come from his basketball adversaries.

On a personal note, I feel fortunate enough that my generation lived to see Michael Jordan in his prime, Kobe in his prime, & to not witness Lebron James in his prime. I have so many memories to hold on to.

Losing Kobe Bryant is losing a childhood hero. It hurts, it stabs, deep.

He leaves to cherish his wife, Vanessa & their three remaining daughters.

He was only 41 years old.
